Canada is the home to an infinite source of wind – a clean, renewable and free resource waiting for harvest. It rewards those who adopt this technology with the reduction of green house gases, fresh air, blue skies, good jobs and a sustainable future for our children.
Elected officials across Canada are recognizing the need and the opportunity that Renewable Energy brings. Provinces such as British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec have provincial targets or initiatives in place to lean towards green. In August of 2009, Ontario rolled out the most progressive legislation in all of North America, the Green Energy And Green Economy Act. Ontario is banking on becoming Canada’s leader in Renewable Energy Installations.
European countries, notably Germany, Denmark and Spain have long since recognized the importance of good legislation. Due to feed-in tariffs, Germany and Spain have become Europe's largest renewable-energy producers. Many of the success factors that favored this advancement in clean energy have been incorporated in the tenets of Ontario’s Green Energy Act and its ensuing Feed-In-Tariff Program. With the right legislation in place, the province is poised to actualize the development of a significant renewable energy supply.
wpd is proud to have been a leading player in the success that Europe has exhibited as the global forerunner in Renewable Energy. And wpd is pleased to have the opportunity to blend the expertise it has gathered for more than a decade with strong Canadian talent. Economic opportunities abound for landowners, developers, Community Groups, First Nations and aboriginal groups. A new, world-class green energy sector has emerged. Canada has the resources to surpass the successes of these early accomplishments!
Founded in 1996, wpd facilities have come to generate some 1,692 megawatts of wind power, solar energy and biogas projects around the world. wpd Canada Corporation, a subsidiary of wpd, is based in the GTA and is currently developing a substantial pipeline of wind projects in the province of Ontario. In addition, wpd Canada is actively seeking opportunities to partner on, acquire or finance other promising wind projects from developers or community groups within Canada.
